The Science and Research on Yoga for Trauma and PTSD – A Talk & Q&A with Sat Bir Singh Khalsa

July 30 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Attend online or in person

Join us for an accessible talk and Q&A with a world-renowned expert in yoga research, exploring the science behind yoga’s role in supporting people experiencing trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The experience of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have been recognized as debilitating conditions with an unfortunately high prevalence in modern society. Despite the fact that many of the cardinal symptoms include physical bodily characteristics, many of the conventional approaches to treating trauma and PTSD are largely psychologically and cognitively based and have limited efficacy. There is now a growing implementation of trauma sensitive yoga for the treatment of trauma and PTSD. This workshop will review the scientific rationale for multicomponent traditional yoga practices including postures/exercises, breath regulation, relaxation and meditation/mindfulness techniques for treating trauma and PTSD. We will also review the research literature on the published clinical trials using yoga as a therapeutic intervention.
