DESCRIPTION:Overview\nHow to teach Kundalini Yoga to older adults\, or people with mobility challenges\, with chair yoga teacher trainer Raghurai Singh.\n\n\n“When you reach forty\, you decline\, not because there must be a decline\, but because you have not taught yourself self-discipline. SUMMARY:The Science and Research on Yoga for Trauma and PTSD - A Talk & Q&A with Sat Bir Singh Khalsa
DESCRIPTION:Attend online or in person\nJoin us for an accessible talk and Q&A with a world-renowned expert in yoga research\, exploring the science behind yoga’s role in supporting people experiencing trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). \nThe experience of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have been recognized as debilitating conditions with an unfortunately high prevalence in modern society. Despite the fact that many of the cardinal symptoms include physical bodily characteristics\, many of the conventional approaches to treating trauma and PTSD are largely psychologically and cognitively based and have limited efficacy. There is now a growing implementation of trauma sensitive yoga for the treatment of trauma and PTSD. This workshop will review the scientific rationale for multicomponent traditional yoga practices including postures/exercises\, breath regulation\, relaxation and meditation/mindfulness techniques for treating trauma and PTSD. We will also review the research literature on the published clinical trials using yoga as a therapeutic intervention. \nVenue\nOnline: Live via Zoom\, tickets \nIn Person: Camden Town\, London (limited places available)\, tickets \nDetails and joining information will be provided upon registration. \nPlease select your own pricing tier. Choose the one that you can afford that also says ‘I value the opportunity to attend this event.’ \n£30\, £20\, £15\, £10 \nA limited number of free tickets have been reserved for GRDP Teachers and Members. Please contact info@grdp.co.uk for more information. \nAll monies raised will go to good causes: the Guru Ram Das Project (www.grdp.co.uk) and Sat Bir Singh’s work on research and yoga. \nAbout Dr Sat Bir Singh Khalsa\nSat Bir Singh Khalsa\, Ph.D. is a Corresponding Member of the Faculty of Medicine at Harvard Medical School retiring as Associate Professor of Medicine. He is also Director of Research for the Kundalini Research Institute\, Research Associate at the Benson Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine\, and Research Affiliate at the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine. He has conducted research on yoga and yoga therapy since 2001 and has been a practitioner/instructor of Kundalini Yoga 1973. His research has evaluated yoga for insomnia\, chronic stress\, and anxiety-related disorders\, and also in workplace and public school settings. He works with the International Association of Yoga Therapists as editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Yoga Therapy and as chair of the scientific program committee for its annual conference. He is medical editor of the Harvard Medical School Special Report Introduction to Yoga\, and chief editor of the medical textbook The Principles and Practice of Yoga in Health Care.
